Digital Product Design
At Loblaw Digital, Product Designers lead cross-functional teams using human-centered design principles. Collaborating closely with Product Management, our Product Design team owns the user experience and product design direction for both existing in-market digital properties and net-new products & services.
By focusing on understanding the needs and motivations of our users, we aim to clearly articulate the opportunity and define the hypothesis to test. We then rapidly prototype a range of potential solutions, test those solutions with both internal stakeholders and actual customers (challenging the original hypothesis), and refine our proposal based on feedback. We push for alignment on a final recommendation - always backed up by a combination of quantatitve and qualitative data - and then produce final design comps and handoff documentation in collaboration with our team of developers.
Post-launch, our Product Design team will track against the original success metrics of the project. We'll then iterate on the initial solution by leveraging insights driven by both qualitative research and analytics (continuous in-market optimization).
What advice would you have for designers?
"Practice, practice, practice. More importantly, reflect on what you have learned in the process and how you can do it better next time."
What excites you most about working at Loblaw Digital?
"Knowing that I am working with some really talented people who care deeply about what they do, and that there’s so much I can learn from them."
Design is how it works
At Loblaw Digital we have an opportunity to work at a massive scale, but we can never lose sight of the individual people who use our products and services. To help us stay focused on our customers, we run regular generative research engagements and use experience mapping techniques to synthesize the outputs of that research. This allows us to consider the full customer journey, and helps us to define and prioritize opportunities as a larger team. We then tackle these opportunities in fixed design sprints, where our designers lead the iterative solutioning process with input from both our internal stakeholders and our customers.
Product Designers are a fantastically diverse bunch, each with our own perspectives, backgrounds, and core strengths. We work closely as a team to support one another, leveraging our unique and complimentary skills. As we grow our team, we are looking for folks who love to work across disciplines. Come join a lean and mighty team of designers passionate about delivering beautiful and innovative digital solutions to millions of Canadians.
As a Digital Product Designer, you’ll be involved in the full product design process. Starting with generative research, you’ll own the user experience of specific product capabilities (i.e.: search, cart, acquisition, etc) through prototyping, iterative refinement, product launch, and continuous in-market optimization.
As a Senior Digital Product Designer, you’ll drive the full arc of the product design process. You'll lead an internal team, and collaborate closely with crossfunctional peers. You're actively looking to transition from doer to leader, and you love to develop processes and to think in terms of systems.
